"Sea skin," a mural painted by David de la Mano in Salerno's old town and commissioned by the Alfonso Gatto Foundation, is a visual reflection that seeks to connect women, the sea, and the living memory that unfolds from a shared life. On her face, the sea is not merely a horizon, but a collection of memories, experiences, and recollections of those who have been part of the maritime journey: sailors, waves, and the passing seasons. The floating elements, the ships, and the human silhouettes that emerge from her skin seem to come and go, intertwining like the waves that ceaselessly reshape the coastline. Each stroke, each figure, seems to capture the eternal flow of time and the traces the sea leaves in its wake.
In this mural, the female face is presented not only as a reflection of womanhood, but also as a reflection of her relationship with the sea. As if each mark on the face that traces her figure were the imprint of memories, of labors and hopes, of sleepless nights awaiting the return of the ships.
