Painting a unique mural on the Balmain Mechanic Repairs garage in Crescent Street at Rozelle was the outcome of a successful business/artistic collaboration between garage proprietor Ian Jackson and local artist Glenda Jones.
it was a follow-on from the 1986 mural on the walls of the now long-gone Darling Street Shell garage where the portraits of Bill Evans and his crew (which included Ian Jackson), were painted. Unfortunately, that particular mural was removed soon after the property was sold and the garage demolished and replaced with apartments.
The first mural on the garage roller door depicts Ian Jackson standing proudly next to his Model T Ford. The second roller door mural depicts mechanic John with his Holden Maloo. To the side, on a support column, is a painting of an old petrol bowser.
