Victor Ash: "Look at me, look at you" (2009)
Victor Ash’s mural, titled "Look at me, look at you," was created for the 32nd Deutscher Evangelischer Kirchentag. This four-part black-and-white artwork, approximately 25 meters high, covers all four sides of a towering bunker. Each side features a larger-than-life figure, interpreting the Kirchentag’s motto, "Mensch, wo bist du" ("Human, where are you").
Ash’s work blends mural painting with graffiti, employing stencil techniques to create monumental wall pieces. His approach combines traditional painting methods with the raw aesthetic of street art, resulting in works that straddle the line between photography and painting and evoke cinematic scenes. The large-scale figures he creates are both eye-catching and profound, offering a visual commentary on societal realities.
The bunker painting was part of the "Sign Seeing" project, where Kirchentag visitors collaborated with experienced street artists to artistically process their impressions of the event, including themes from Bible studies. The project also featured the "Urban Art – Works from the Reinking Collection" exhibition at the Weserburg – Museum für moderne Kunst Bremen.
