The Bushwick Collective

This work celebrates the history, spirit and present of the Bushwick neighborhood in New York through evocative symbols and details. The crown on the little girl's head is not only a symbol of royalty, but represents the cultural and social importance of Bushwick. Once a working-class and popular area, today Bushwick is a melting pot of artistic expression, urban culture and community resilience. The crown celebrates the rebirth and identity of this neighborhood as a creative and inclusive kingdom. The blue color of the little girl's dress recalls the industrial history of the neighborhood. Bushwick, in fact, was a production center, including textiles and manufacturing, especially during the period of maximum industrial expansion of New York. The blue fabric symbolizes work, the popular roots and the transformation of the neighborhood from an industrial area to the beating heart of urban art. The red apple held in the child's hand recalls the iconic symbol of New York - the Big Apple. Thiselement connects Bushwick to the broader panorama of the city of New York.
