“Cat’s Cradle” is a mural that symbolically restores and highlights the vital role of women in Bielsko-Biała’s history. The artist drew inspiration from the children's game of intertwining strings, using it as a metaphor for cooperation, mutual support, and intertwined destinies. The mural features women who played crucial roles in the city’s industrial development, yet have often been overlooked in official histories. Through this work, Paulina Kwietniewska not only honors their hard work but also captures the spirit of fun, joy, and spontaneity that marked their lives.
Located on the wall of a building at 11 Przekop Street, the mural is set in a part of the city rich in industrial history, tying it to the local textile tradition and the concept of a “city of weaves” — connections that span both historical and interpersonal levels.
Paulina Kwietniewska, a Łódź-based artist, is known for her realist paintings and murals. Her style blends classical realism with modern graphic techniques, giving her work a unique, collage-like quality. She trained at the renowned London Atelier of Representational Art.
The “Cat’s Cradle” mural was created as part of the 10th edition of the “oBBraz miasta” project, organized by Bielska Gallery BWA.
