This artwork is part of one of the four totems installed within this residential complex. It was created in collaboration with the housing developer Nexity and the City Council. Below is an excerpt from an article published in the local newspaper DNA, which discusses this project:

Félix Wysocki Apaiz is one of the visual artists who once occupied the former France Telecom wasteland — a refuge for squatters and a space of expression for artists from all walks of life.

Mathieu Schweyer, regional director for the North and East at Nexity, the real estate development company in charge of the renovation, said he was deeply moved by the artist’s life story. On Nexity’s initiative, Apaiz was first invited to paint murals on the construction site fences. “We wanted to take it further,” explained Schweyer, recalling the origins of a now-permanent multimedia artwork. The creation was financially supported by the Signature program of the Strasbourg Eurometropolis.

The four totems unveiled to the public are inspired by a film that Apaiz himself made about the city of Schiltigheim.

Combining testimonies from “ordinary people” in the neighborhoods with scenes of fiction and artistic evocation, this docufiction offers the perspective of an outsider artist on a city where, as he puts it, “you can still smell the hops.”
