Since 2020, several artists from the SCHUNCK Museum collection have created murals in the staircase of the iconic building. These interventions enhance the architecture, spanning across all five floors of the indoor staircase. Approximately every 6 months, a new artist is invited to contribute a mural, making each artwork inherently temporary.
This 'glass palace' is not only a museum, library, and music and dance school, but also an iconic building for Heerlen an the region. Curious about the history of this architectural masterpiece by Frits Peutz? Visit the free exhibition on the mezzanine in the central hall.
Got some spare time? Enjoy a cocktail at Mijnstreek on the fifth floor. From here: you can take in panoramic views of the entire city and beyond. It's the perfect opportunity to check if you've seen all the murals (spoiler alert: probably not).
This former department store is one of the famous architectural sights of Heerlen. It now hosts a Cultural Center with a museum, a music & dance school and a library.
The museum has paid exhibitions in the basement and a some free exhibitions in the main hall and in the art depot.
Also enjoy various (street) artworks at the stairway and elevator!
It's a great place to eat:
'Bagels and Beans' for a lunch with great views over the Pancratius Square
Or 'Brasserie Mijn Streek' for a lunch or diner with views over Heerlen skyline
