The Journey Home

A homage to Australian poet Henry Lawson, painted at the northern entrance of Petersham Station next to the platform elevators. The artwork is a nod to the poet's significance of the area, with the poem 'Faces in the Street' having strong connections to the station. Some poems were even thought to have been written at the bar opposite! In the background is a silhouette of the station overpass bridge, with two figures dressed in early 1900s clothing.

The artist describes the piece as the following:

The last rays of afternoon sunlight spill across Petersham station bathing the waiting Henry Lawson in its warm light. Rain will begin to fall soon, a summer storm, but the poet is lost in thought, straining to see the outlines of a poem in his mind’s eye.
