El Camino es el Destino / The Journey is the Destination

This stop on the “Camino Primitivo” is one of the oldest routes to Santiago for ancient Christian pilgrims, and was established by the King of Asturias hundreds of years ago. It is also known for being one of the toughest and most difficult journeys over tough terrain to reach the city of Santiago.

This part of Asturias is a region of mountains, strong winds, storms, and the sea. I identified so much with this site and with the concept of the camino primitivo - not only does this piece depict a pilgrim, but it also considers the growth that comes with suffering and difficulty. Many of us have experienced existential crises, highs, lows, gains and losses during the past year, and through this piece I aimed to reflect on the duality of beauty and pain existing simultaneously; and the search for deeper meaning throughout life’s journeys.
