Idea by DI (FH) Walter Frisch FreshFX Media GmbH Salzburg. The combination of the historical narrative and the modern graffiti art of FatHeat creates a unique connection and gives this project a special depth. This initiative not only made it possible to realise this work of art, but also shed new light on the cultural significance of the Mallnitz Lindwurm and the Carinthian landmark - the Klagenfurt Lindwurm.
Short version of the legend of the Lindwurm:
A large lake once rested in the Mallnitz valley, stretching from the Rabischer Hügel, which closes off the valley to the south, deep into the Seebachtal, where the Stappitzer See still remains as a small remnant. Sheep grazed on the shores of the lake during the summer. One day, the shepherd Lenz descended to the lake with his water cart and noticed a red hare's egg. He placed the strange egg in his water cart, which he filled with lake water. The sun warmed the full water puddle that Lenz was carrying on his back. Suddenly there was a loud crash and the water puddle fell to the ground. A young lindworm crawled out of the eggshells, looked around and crawled into the lake, grew incredibly fast and ate all the trout from the lake, then got out of the water and went after the sheep. The shepherds were terrified and in order not to lose all the sheep, they climbed up to the Hochalmspitze with their flocks, which at that time had no glacier. As the lindworm had nothing left to eat, it raged and roared with hunger and rage. One night, it bit through the rock rib that blocked off the lake to the south. The dragon's teeth marks can still be seen in this gorge. The masses of water plunged down from the high valley with great force and dragged the lindworm down with them through the Möll and Drau valleys into Lake Wörthersee. The lindworm survived this wild journey well and continued its voracious raids in the lowlands until it was lured into a trap by a bull. The shepherds moved back down from the high mountains and founded the village of Mallnitz in the flat and dry valley.
