This work of art by regional artist Aktrice shows the history of mining in the region. The lines symbolise gold, silver and copper mining and thus the prosperity and wealth of the mining era in the Mölltal.

Ore mines, silver and gold mines were located here in the Mölltal in the high mountains. A 6,000-year-old cult site on the Danielsberg proves that gold, silver and iron were mined on this 962 metre-high mountain as early as 500 BC. There was a deposit of copper in the Großfragant, high-quality iron in the Raggaalm and gold in the Wurten. The mining of gold probably goes back the furthest and gave the Goldberg group its name. The Celts had already settled in the Mölltal and started mining due to the presence of mineral resources. In 15 BC, the Roman administration took over gold mining in the area. The oldest mining register in Obervellach, which still exists today, clearly proves that there were silver mines in the ‘Teuchl’ around 1480. At the end of the 15th century, the mines were placed under the control of an ‘obristen Bergmeister’ by Austria. Due to the special importance of Obervellach in 1509, Lamprecht Zäch was appointed the first Oberstbergmeister for the Habsburg lands of the Bergrichters of (Ober) Vellach. The main duties of the mining judge, who had his official residence in Obervellach, were in particular to represent the sovereign as a trade and to supervise mining, which experienced its heyday throughout the Eastern Alps in the first half of the 16th century.
