This mural is part of a two-piece series created for Beyond Walls, exploring the idea of “comfort zone.”
The project began through workshops with students and teachers of the Lynn district, where we discussed what feels most present in their lives today. The themes discussed all revolved around “comfort zone” and the role it plays in our lives. A place we all know well, but one that feels especially powerful during a time of growth and transition.
In this mural, a solitary figure floats in a bathtub, surrounded by soft textures and familiar objects. It’s a scene of safety and introspection, but also of suspension, comfort that soothes, yet holds her in place.
The scattered oranges act as quiet sources of energy and vitality that are present but untouched. They represent the warmth of self-nourishment, but also the potential left unrealized when we remain too long in a familiar space.
A reminder that while comfort shelters us, it can also keep us from moving forward.
