Camarón de la Isla

Description

The artist from Linares wanted to pay tribute to Camarón with his work José Monge Cruz, a striking oil on canvas by the deceased artist

"I can say that in this portrait the singing became hair in the shape of spikes, the palms were an embrace and at the same time an awakening, the green colour of the olive grove where I grew up and the mauve that embraces pain." This is how the artist Belin describes his latest work, a tribute to the flamenco legend Camarón through his work José Monge Cruz. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of his death, the painting is on display in the artist's room on Camino de Úbeda street.

Imagining, experimenting, changing something, taking risks, daring, breaking standards. This is the way in which Camarón expressed his music and which has inspired the artist from the City of Mines for his art. No one better than him, Andalusian, to pay tribute to the legend of flamenco, pure tradition expressed in a key of modernity. One with his voice and another with his brushes.

"José Monge Cruz transmits to me with his voice and music the deep love and dedication that he had for singing. I identify with his work and with his vision of how an artist should approach creativity, inspiration, execution and, as a consequence, his contribution to art," Belin said in a statement.

Belin, a post-neocubist artist, son of urban art and constantly moving between tradition and modernity, began his career on the street and today exhibits his work around the world. He saw in Camarón's image and personality an equal, a bold and transgressive artist who represents the tireless, and at the same time devastating, love for your art.

Imaginar, experimentar, cambiar algo, arriesgarse, atreverse, romper estándares.

I started painting with spray cans in 1999, and I liked it so much that I wanted to learn how to use it to create art, to be able to decorate streets all over the world, and thanks to the effort and perseverance, today my work is muralism with graffiti.
