The image of the local Wedge-Tailed Eagle carries the line of the Billabong Creek and some of it's numerous tributaries on it's wings. The Billabong Creek is reputedly the longest creek in the world, rising in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range near Holbrook in the east and running to the Edward River at Moulamein to the West.
'As the crow flies' the Billabong Creek travels nearly 400km but as it winds and weaves the creek extends over 1200km passing through the towns of Morven, Culcairn, Walbundrie, Rand, Jerilderie, Conargo, Wanganella and Moulamein.
There are approximately 360 wetlands identified on the Billabong, Yanco and Colombo Creeks, providing habitat for the endangered Trout Cod, Eel-tailed Catfish, Southern Bell Frog, Australasian Bittern and Plains-wanderer.
The water in this extensive creek system webbed between the Murray and Murrumbidgee Rivers are the lifeline for all communities in this region.
