Karski, Beyond

Karski (1974) & Beyond (1983) are known as an artist duo from the Netherlands. They have a background in graphic design and the academy of fine arts and were heavily involved in graffiti. Karski picked up the spray can when he was only 10 years old. Beyond, being from another generation, started painting in 1997.

This work was made for a housing association. Karski and Beyond spoke with the neighbourhood what kind of picture they wanted. People wanted something colourful and so the 4 murals on the Laakweg are very colourful. This one shows a big stork (symbol of The Hague) and a baby and crown because The Hague is the city where the Dutch king works and lives most of the time. They also want to show that every child can become a king.
