Case, aka Andreas von Chrzanowski, is a founder member of the East German Ma’Claim Crew. A pioneer of photorealism, the artist focuses essentially on the portrayal of hands, the natural link between the brain and the real world. His complete mastery of drawing enables him to transmit emotion and message, playing with fingers or digits. In the work of Case Maclaim, the superimposition of hands is not merely a physical movement of the body but also a political movement set in a particular context in which the spectator can visualise recent history and experience emotion. He has left his fingerprints in more than 20 countries. All are universal messages, because “a gesture of the hand can say a thousand words”.
