I was invited by @zambujal360 to be part of a project focused on the UN's 17 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), and I was assigned SDG 1 - No Poverty. This goal is particularly complex, both in terms of practice and art, as finding a global solution to this problem is a huge challenge. Furthermore, the Zambujal neighbourhood has a very diverse social reality, which makes the issue even more complex. Instead of simply describing the situation experienced in the neighbourhood, I decided to represent the story of a resident as a symbol of resilience and determination in the search for happiness, for herself and those around her. This resident's journey is an example of overcoming; she faced immense adversity since childhood and had to fight hard to find her place in the world. With the support and love of the family that took her in and the development of her own inner strength, she was finally able to transform her life. Today, she works in a profession that she is proud of and is able to support her family by doing what she loves most: helping people feel beautiful. Her experiences have shaped her and given her a unique perspective on the importance of persistence and believing in a better future. Tita, in the center, braids Patrícia's hair. The two grew up together, in the same house, as blood sisters, but with bonds that were even stronger than that. When Tita arrived at Patrícia's house, she was still a baby. She gained a new family, a new mother, a sister and broadened her horizons. Today she is a hairdresser and in this painting she shows the happiness and sensitivity she has in caring for those who cared for her when she was younger. She is giving back, grateful for the extended family she has gained. “Without faith, I wouldn't have made it,” she shared in her story of overcoming.
