It Takes A Village

This mural interprets SDG 10, which aims to reduce inequalities in income, as well as those based on age, gender, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion, and economic or other status within a country. The goal also addresses inequalities between countries.

The central figure is a profile silhouette of a resident of Bairro do Zambujal, a Muslim woman from Guinea-Bissau, filled with portraits of other people from the neighbourhood, which is also home to large Romani and Cape Verdean communities. This selection emerged from fieldwork carried out during the summer. The figures represented span a wide range of ages (from 1 to 100 years old), ethnicities, backgrounds, religions, socio-economic conditions, and include people with both visible and invisible disabilities. The intention was to emphasize shared human qualities rather than perceived “differences.”
