La180’s mural pays homage to the Madonna delle Funzioni, the deeply rooted religious festival held every August in Roccamena, where the entire community gathers in devotion. At the center of the artwork stands the Virgin, portrayed with a regal crown and a radiant blue dress, emanating an otherworldly light. She is encircled by a golden halo that evokes both the life‑giving sun and the divine presence, inviting viewers into a space of contemplation and spiritual warmth. This luminous circle becomes a threshold between the earthly and the sacred, reinforcing the mural’s atmosphere of mysticism.
Along the edge of this glowing ring, a small bird carrying a twig introduces a gentle, hopeful gesture, but it is the ear of wheat that anchors the mural’s symbolic depth. The wheat recalls the Christian belief in Christ as the bread of life, while also honoring the agricultural traditions of Roccamena. For generations, townspeople have turned to the Madonna delle Funzioni to seek blessings for a fruitful harvest, and the inclusion of wheat sanctifies their labor and their hopes.
Through these layered symbols, the mural becomes more than a depiction of the Virgin; it becomes a visual expression of the enduring emotional bond between the community and its patron figure. La180 captures the festival’s spirit—its reverence, its gratitude, and its collective identity—transforming the wall into a testament to faith, tradition, and the shared devotion that continues to unite Roccamena year after year.
