The same person, in two different periods of life. This mural painting is a homage to the artist Henrique Silva for his umbilical connection with the Cerveira International Art Biennial. With this work by Juan Domingues, displayed on one of the façades of the Cineteatro de Cerveira – Marreca Gonçalves, the trilogy of immortalisation of the founders of the Biennale and the concept of 'Vila das Artes' is completed, through interventionist and interactive art with the community.
At the entrance to the village, in a historic building and close to the face of Mestre José Rodrigues, a new 10m mural appears, with two faces of the charismatic artist Henrique Silva, in his youth and today. The Venezuelan artist, son of Portuguese immigrants, was inspired by the book by Paula Alcântara Carreira, entitled “Henrique – The multiple lives of a single man, a biography possible by the painter Henrique Silva”, to portray the past and present of the man he considers to be 'the eternal master of the restless', capturing his sincere and restless gaze, and an eternal inability to resign.
Henrique Silva was one of the driving forces behind the Cerveira Biennials, having been director of the Cerveira Biennials between 1995 and 2007. In December 2013, he was appointed vice-president of FBAC and cultural coordinator, having also assumed the role of director. artistic of the XVIII Cerveira Biennial (2015). With a life dedicated to the arts, Henrique Silva has a vast and meritorious artistic career spread across the world, as well as sharing knowledge and experiences in the area of higher education.
It should be noted that, with this nomination, the Municipality of Vila Nova de Cerveira completes the trilogy of tributes to the three founders of the Cerveira Biennial in public spaces. The first artistic work dates back to 2016, with the Brazilian artist Elton Hipólito evoking the master José Rodrigues in an eight-meter mural, entitled “Gaps in Memory”, occupying a facade of the Cineteatro de Cerveira; and since 2017, the main façade of Casa do Artista has exalted the painter Jaime Isidoro with an artistic intervention by Ana Torrie, where the painter appears, accompanied by his trusted cat.
