Nano Arribas Lázaro

Gerardo de la Calle / Migrantes

Description

Nano Lázaro's artwork evokes the migratory wave that was experienced in Aranda de Duero during the 1950's and 1960's, as a result of the city's industrialisation. This process brought an important boost to the local economy and attracted a high number of people, most of them from the nearby province of Segovia, who settled in the neighbourhood. The mural recreates the arrival of Gerardo de la Calle in 1959 from the Segovian town of Navas de Oro to Aranda de Duero, where he settled and developed his business.

The design is based in an original photograph in which Gerardo is featured with his horses and cart, adapted into a vertical format that integrates in the façade. The image of the cart being pulled by the animals contrasts the lower section of the artwork, where gears and cranes are depicted to evoke the factory and machinery production, which characterise the sector which attracted migrants like the protagonist of the piece.
