Vanesa Galdeano and AnalĂ ChanquĂa have been creating art in the public space for more than 14 years. Brought together by shared concerns for urban space and public art, they began producing work together 9 years ago. They created a unifying project called | MEDIANERAS | to expand and link their production. | MEDIANERAS | is the Spanish word for ‘side walls’. Unlike the walls, which are only responsible for separating the spaces, the side walls are those shared between neighbours. This concept interests them because they believe that public art, besides making cities more beautiful, claims the idea of a shared place – of all individuals. They believe public art does more than just beautify cities, it offers a shared space that brings individuals and communities together. Through public art, they want to alter the urban landscape and shift the way we typically perceive spaces. Fundamental to this is the need to move, tour cities and carry out their work in urban contexts around the world. So far, they have created public art together in Brazil (Rio de Janeiro, Fortaleza, FlorianĂłpolis), Argentina (Buenos Aires, Rosario, San Juan, Villa ConstituciĂłn), Bolivia (La Paz), MĂ©xico (Hollbox, Bacalar), UK (London), Germany (Wiesbaden, Chemnitz, Heidelberg, Wuppertal), Austria (Vienna), Portugal (Lisbon, Covilha, Cascais. Loures), Spain (Barcelona, Madrid, Salamanca, Fanzara, La Bañeza, Valencia, Cheste, Tejeda de Tietar, Alberique, Alcoy, Galicia), Thailand (Bangkok), Australia (Melbourne, Brisbane), Uruguay (Mercedes), Belgium (Brussels, Geel, Ostend), Canada (Vancouver, Quebec), France (Morlaix, Briançon), Italy (Palermo, Padova, Milan), Norway (Oslo) and among others.
