<div>This wall speaks about gender equality, considering the concept of gender from a wider and more plural place. It downplays the biological condition of the individual, respecting the choice that each person makes about their condition as man, woman or a non-binary gender. It speaks of subverting the manichean logic that always favors one part over the other one, trying to speak from inside and outside the system and not only investing the traditional asymmetry to continue speaking from the same system that is criticized.¨</div>

<div><strong>NEDERLANDS </strong>- Dit kunstwerk werd gemaakt door Tamara Djurovic, ook wel bekend als HYURO. Ze werd geboren in Argentinië en woonde in Spanje. Voor dit project werd HYURO gevraagd iets te maken over de Spaanse immigratie in Vilvoorde. Eén op de drie inwoners van Vilvoorde is van Spaanse afkomst. Opmerkelijk is dat ze bijna allemaal uit hetzelfde dorp komen, uit Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo, een plaats in de provincie Cordoba in Andalusië. In het eerste decennium van de twintigste eeuw was het mijngebied van Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo één van de belangrijkste industriële centra van Andalusië. Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo was dus vooral een stad van de arbeidersklasse, waar de leefomstandigheden, zoals in veel andere arbeiderssteden, niet al te goed waren. Als je in Vilvoorde rondloopt, is de Spaanse aanwezigheid merkbaar. Je hoort voortdurend Spaanse gesprekken op straat. HYURO overleed in november 2020.<br><br><strong>ENGLISH </strong>- This work of art was made by Tamara Djurovic, also known as HYURO. Born in Argentina, she lived in Spain. For this project HYURO was asked to make something about the Spanish immigration in Vilvoorde. One in three inhabitants of Vilvoorde is of Spanish descent. Noteworthy is that almost all of them come from the same village, from Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo, a place in the province of Córdoba in Andalusia. In the first decade of the twentieth century, the mining area of Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo was one of the most important industrial centers of Andalusia. Peñarroya-Pueblonuevo was therefore primarily a working class city, where the living conditions, as in many other worker cities, were not too good. When you walk around Vilvoorde, the Spanish presence is noticeable. You constantly hear Spanish conversations on the street. The image represents the immigration process, the blanket refers to the culture, the customs that we carry within us. HYURO died in November 2020.&nbsp;</div>

<div>The first mural made for the project 'OMG Van Eyck was here!', celebrating the brothers Van Eyck who are well known for their altarpiece or 'The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb' (dating from 1432).<br><br>With this intimate and delicate mural Hyuro aka Tamara Djurovic, refers to the many flowers, nature and richely decorated clothes that can be found on the famous altar piece. <div>La Punta is a neighborhood located in the south of Valencia city, known for its historic and traditional orchards. Despite being recognized as a "non-developable area of special protection", it has been victim of repeated abuses by administrations. Its natural environment and social fabric have been badly damaged by the unstoppable advance of the port were neighbors were expelled for an alleged expansion that never arrived.&nbsp; The "Logistics Activities Zone" project (ZAL) it implied going over their protection, expelling a hundred families from their homes, judicially and physically harassed, an assault that included an accelerated and unjustified expulsion of residents, the destruction of barracks, farmhouses, ditches, cultivated plots and the conversion of the entire area into a shameful solar that remains unused after 14 years.</div><div>The resistance of the neighbors did not serve to stop the destruction of 70 ha of productive orchard, but to paralyze the ZAL. Three judgments of the Superior Court of Justice annulled the project.</div><div>Recently, however, the procedures have been put in place to reactivate the ZAL Plan.</div><div>The action of throwing tomatoes universally means rejection, this wall speaks about rejection to all these unbridled urban projects, predators, driven by their own interests without taking into account the life and rights of the people.</div><div>Special thanks to Escif who collaborated with this project and put together this great line up of artists, was an honoured for me to be part of them. Thanks to all the people that organized, manage, help and accompany us throughout these days. Recuperem La Punta, aturem la ZAL¨ 

<div>This wall speaks about the internal contradictions with which we live, conflicts arising from opposite desires of the relationship that we maintain with things, people and ideas. A constant state of negation and acceptance of who we are and what we want to be, thoughts based on ideals and socially set patterns that take us away from the reality of the present and the understanding of who we truly are.</div>

Contradictions

<div>"Morriña is a Galician word that describes a feeling of nostalgia that, from an anthropological point of view, brings us closer to culture as a provider of everything that is not a product of nature. In this case, the blanket metaphorically represents the culture and all those traditions and customs that lose with the evolution of modern times. "<br>The mural of Hyuro on the main façade of Pazo da Cultura de Carballo building is called Morriña, a term so intrinsically Galician and endowed with so many meanings linked to the land, its origin and its own culture. As in the rest of her previous works, the renowned Argentine artist generates a particular link between painting and the public, inviting him to reflect through a subtle and delicate metaphorical language. Hyuro uses the street as a space for research and continuous reflection, for the liberation of our own fears, conflicts and concerns that we maintain with ourselves and with our environment. She aims to generate that union between the painting and the public, awakening the curiosity and reactivating the internal dialogue that we maintain with who we are and the place we occupy in the world.&nbsp;<br>In this composition, in which the figure of a woman appears prostrate on top of a mantle in a position that seems to be crying or lamenting, she reflects on the passage of time and its consequences. From an anthropological point of view, culture is everything that does not come directly from nature. Based on this reflection, Hyuro uses this mantle as a visual metaphor for culture (Galician in particular) and all the traditions and customs that are lost with the evolution of modern times in which we live and the disappointment that this loss induces in people.</div>

<div><strong>Late Tamara Djurovic, aka Hyuro was born in Argentina, where she started painting on canvas. After meeting Spanish street artist Escif she moved to Valencia, Spain and trying out her art on murals. From now on, the street art world wouldn’t let go of her. Since then, Hyuro has taken her poetic visual language to the streets, or actually, to the walls.<br><br></strong>Her work is intimate and very personal. In her work, Hyuro doesn’t speak about her, talks to her. She uses the wall as a mirror in which constantly seeks and is, in this process, that painting rescues the echo of that conversation with herself.<strong><br><br></strong>This center image represents times before and after the development of the steel industry. The figures around it, means union, speaking for the multicultural society.</div>

<div>2018 EDITION<br><br>Hyuro is an Argentinian urban artist. She currently lives and works in Valencia, Spain. Hyuro is known for her black and white murals, paintings and drawings. Originally working on canvas, Hyuro took to the streets after striking up a friendship with Spanish street artist Escif. Women are the center of her work.&nbsp; She blends politics and surrealisme in dreamlike compositions. Hyuro has become one of the most influential female artists working in public space today.</div>

The Dance as an Act of Resistence

<div>This piece was inspired by the long-standing state in Belgium, an inconstant integral situation that lives every day to the limit of disintegration. Separated into two irreconcilable linguistic communities, with different cultures, along with old ethnic discords and other stories, are the basis of the crisis of this fragmented country. Researchers said that Belgium is the country that was the longest time without consolidating its own government, paradoxically, its capital Brussels, is considered the European Union capital. It is said that if Belgium collapses, the European Union will follow its steps.</div><div>The image shows a person recomposing a broken pottery, it will be unthinkable to return it to its original state, neither to know how much it would be able to take once recomposed, not even how much it will be able to resist. Taking this from a more human perspective, this wall speaks about the fragility of life in all its aspects.&nbsp;</div>

<div>“Una donna libera” (A free woman) pays tribute to Maria Ochipinti, a militant pacifist, anarchist, feminist, a woman who is recorded in Sicilian history as an emblem of Sicilian women’s protest in the mid-forties.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Maria Occhipinti’s life was not easy, her quest for freedom and struggle against all kinds of injustice forced her to be uprooted, to move like a nomad without a home. A life full of pain and loneliness, a woman who, by her way of thinking, was marginalized by her people, one of the reasons why she had to live her life in exile.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The journey was for her a way to affirm her own freedom, to revolt against bourgeois normality. Maria was a woman who always remained firm in her convictions, sacrificing her life for ideas that went beyond herself, it is her humanity that always prevails in all her actions.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>This wall speaks of her passion, her freedom and greatness, but it also represents the incomprehension, abuse and marginalization she had to live with all her life.&nbsp;</div>

<div>Hyuro, flagship artist of the new muralism, was invited to participate in the Bien Urbain Festival to imagine “Juste Ici association” the festival lineup. Hyuro has created a new artwork. Through this mural, he wanted to express the importance, even more for women, of not being afraid to stand up and express themselves, straight on their feet, in the public space.<br>Project created within the scope of the “9th Bien Urbain edition”.</div>

<div>The structure and composition of a family in Cotignola during the Eighteenth Century was marked by the lack of privacy, due to a multigenerational family life, with a codified and accepted hierarchical structure and strict rules. In this situation, all women were almost treated as minors and wives were always under marital authority.<br><br></div><div>Paradoxically, what for a woman was the only form of emancipation from paternal authority – that is to say, marriage – gave rise to a new submission, the one to the husband. It was unavoidable, therefore, that from her first admission to the new family after her marriage, the daughter-in-law would have been very far from being able to lead the house, being, in fact, the last arrival and often, as they say, “the last wheel of the wagon” in family’s hierarchy.<br><br></div><div>The entry of the young bride into the new family was accompanied by the mother-in-law’s ritual, who welcomed the daughter-in-law “on the stairs with a big spoon”, offered as assignment of domestic chores.<br>For a woman who wanted to compete with men in Romagna, there is a name that still exists, which is “Árzdora”: a woman who wants to go beyond assigned functions in a patriarchal society and show her skills by competing with her husband<br><br></div><div>Take a look below for more images and keep checking back with us for the latest updates from the street art in Europe and beyond.<br><br></div>

<div>Urban art work dedicated to the American urban planner Jane Jacobs, which led to a new way of thinking about cities with a gender perspective, carried out within the project "Interactive Murals Women of Science" of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) and Las Naves in 2019. In this work, Hyuro has shaped through a unique language and style the figure of a woman who holds in her hands a crystal ball in whose interior different buildings and spaces appear.
