After an unfortunate fall, Siegfried, an avid rower, already started his journey to the other side. Goedele stayed behind as a young widow with 2 young orphans, Thieu and Jeroom. Since then, the family has struggled with what's next..&nbsp;<br>The carousel symbolizes the life that keeps spinning. At the same time it evokes melancholy. Memories of a fair with organ music and the sweet smell of fried pastries. A celebration of love that ended way too soon.&nbsp;<br>The heart-shaped balloon reflects all this love. Love that never dies. The heart is relatively large and would be powerful enough&nbsp;<br>to fly away with. Goedele is therefore deliberately not on the merry-go-round. She's not turning back yet, she's looking. But the scraper can - when ever the time comes - be opened again to give her a place on the carousel. Door een ongelukkige val begon Siegfried, een fervent roeier, al aan zijn tocht naar de overkant. Goedele bleef achter als jonge weduwe met 2 jonge halfwezen, Thieu en Jeroom. Sindsdien worstelt het gezin methoe het verder moet.&nbsp;<br>De carrousel staat symbool voor het leven dat blijft voortdraaien. Tegelijk roept het melancholie op. Herinneringen aan een kermisfeest met orgelmuziek en de zoete geur van gefrituurd gebak. Een feest van liefde dat veel te vroeg geëindigd is.&nbsp; &nbsp;<br>De hartvormige ballon weerspiegelt al deze liefde. Liefde die nooit sterft. Het hart is in verhouding erg groot en zou krachtig genoeg zijn&nbsp;<br>om mee weg te vliegen. Goedele zit dan ook bewust niet op de draaimolen. Ze draait nog niet terug mee, ze zoekt. Maar de schraper kan – wanneer het ooit zover is – terug opengemaakt worden om haar een plekje te geven op de carrousel. Gewoon het poppetje verplaatsen – zo eenvoudig en mooi kan het leven in miniatuur zijn.</div>

Not as easy as they thought. But after a few hours of stories about dramatic tent holidays, good food and drinks, socializing with friends, dogs who are always everywhere, intense emotions, differences between Dutch and Belgians, travel and vegetarianism. There was the consensus that a dirty tent and a camper was the ideal imagination of this wonderfully warm family.<br><br>---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------<br>Tom en Alice namen zich voor niks in de schraper te verbeelden dat met hun werk te maken heeft. Geen makkelijke opdracht zo bleek. Maar na een paar uur verhalen over dramatische tentvakanties, lekker eten en drinken, gezellig samen zijn met vrienden, honden die altijd overal bij zijn, heftige emoties, verschillen tussen Nederlanders en Belgen, reizen en vegetarisme. Was er de consensus dat een vuile tent en een camper de ideale verbeelding was van dit heerlijk warme gezin.&nbsp;</div>

They're actually&nbsp; boot scrapers, used by visitors to clean the mud off their shoes before entering the house. They’ve been around since the 18th century and are almost like a predecessor to the modern door-mat. Happy hunting.<br><br></strong>In the tradition of the many Mary Statues in our beautiful city has, and because I have an extensive collection of statues myself, a mini-chapel in the foot scraper seemed very appropriate to me. My contribution has been limited to supplying the statue, the further interpretation is due to Hausgemacht.

Mijn bijdrage heeft zich beperkt tot het leveren van het beeldje, de verdere invulling is te danken aan Hausgemacht.</div><div>Wij zijn zeer blij met ons eigen Mariake, op hoogdagen wordt ze verlicht met een kaarsje 😊.</div>

We all play an instrument, violin, piano and cello, our daughter is depicted as a dancer but also sings.
