<div>As a tribute to the 2009 deceased artist Jef Nys could 8th strip wall in Antwerp nothing more than one of Jommeke.&nbsp;<br>A perfect place for the joyful Jommeke and his friends on a square where many children play.&nbsp;<br>The square was also applicable renamed "Children are the boss'- Square in 2011.<br><br>Comic wall for "Muurvast" (2011)</div>

<div>In the Kloosterstraat you'll find the 10th comic wall in Antwerp.<br>This wall is based on Nero created by Marc Sleen, we see 'Petoetje and Petatje'&nbsp; walking towards the harbor in true comic style. While Nero awaits them on a towing boat.<br><br>(2014)</div>

<div>Part of the many comic walls present in&nbsp; Antwerp, this wall shows Spike &amp; Suzy (Suske &amp; Wiske) on the back of the ghost Sus Antigone. It's the classic cover of an issue where Spike &amp; Suzy meet eachother for the first time in medieval Antwerp.&nbsp;<br>Everybody in Belgium knows the adventures of this young duo and must have read a dozen of their albums.&nbsp;<br>When you're in front of the mural the Cathedral of our Lady makes a beautiful appearance.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;( may 2007))</div>

<div>In 2007, when the comicbook hero Kiekeboe existed for 30 years it was obvious the next comicbook wall was one dedicated to him.&nbsp;<br>Kiekeboe with his famous mustache, got his place on this classic trompe l'oeil of a cozy but fictional Antwerp alley. The link with the neighborhood is always important. You can see that Fanny who cycles to college with her courses. With this wall seems like Merho created an extra alley. Especially the combination with the Madonna statue on the corner is very successful.<br><br>created for comic wall project "Muurvast" (2007)</div>

<div><br>In 2008, the "Willem Elsschot" society asked to imortalise one of the most famous characters of Willem Elsschot (thanx @ Jos&nbsp; Bauer for pointing that out ;-)) on a mural.<br>Based on the cover of the graphic novel Dick Matena you can see "Laarmans"&nbsp; Willem Elsschot's alter ego&nbsp; cross the "Grote Markt" of Antwerp with a bag full of cheese balls.<br>In the background you can clearly see the town hall and Brabo.<br><br>(2008)</div>

<div><br>This mural designed by the famous Jan Van Der Veken shows the relationships between nature and the city.<br>In its famous Atom style the cartoon characters&nbsp; have bought plants and flowers and the drawing evolves into a woman in the earthly paradise. Their flowing hair refer to the drafty passage under the tower.<br><br><br></div>

<div>On the back of the Normo coffee house in the "Grote Goddaard" spread over two floors, one of the most original murals in the city is displayed, a gigantic work, bursting with figures, which you can not get tired of.
<br>“They gave me freedom in the design,” Kim says (he omits his last name when signing his comics and cartoons). “But it had to contain culturally relevant Antwerp residents.&nbsp;<br>
<br>The 'Boom Paukeslag' and Singer's sewing machine immediately catch the eye. And if you study the work long enough, you will discover the important figures from Antwerp's cultural life: in addition to van Ostaijen, Elsschot and Claus, Rubens, Van Beirendonck, Panamarenko, Barman and Brabo. They are located between Wiske and Schanulleke, Lange Wapper and Kludde. We also see references to A Greek Tragedy, the Oscar-winning cartoon by Nicole Van Goethem, to the Tropical Institute, the Hasidic community…

<br>“But in between I also drew my typical collection of bizarre fantasy figures: sexy, half-naked women, robots, cats, gnomes, drunks, skeletons, witches and princesses and a Superman with the Antwerp A on his chest. It was already a crazy job to draw them all, but for the men who have put the work on the facade dozens of times, it must have been really hellish.”<br><br>--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------<br><br>Op de achtergevel van koffiehuis Normo in de Grote Goddaard, op de hoek met de Engelse Beurs, prijkt nu, verspreid over twee verdiepingen, een van de origineelste muurtekeningen van de stad, een gigantisch werk, barstensvol figuren, waar je niet op uitgekeken raakt.</div><div>“Ze hebben me vrij gelaten in het ontwerp”, zegt Kim (zijn familienaam laat hij weg als hij zijn strips en cartoons signeert). “Maar er moesten wel cultureel verantwoorde Antwerpenaars in staan. En zo dicht bij het Letterenhuis en het standbeeld van Paul van Ostaijen mocht er in dit van Ostaijen-jaar ook wel een serieuze focus op de dichter liggen.”<br><br></div><div>De ‘Boem Paukeslag’ en de naaimachine van Singer vallen meteen op. En wie het werk lang genoeg bestudeert zal ze wel ontdekken, de belangrijke figuren uit het Antwerpse cultuurleven: naast van Ostaijen ook Elsschot en Claus, Rubens, Van Beirendonck, Panamarenko, Barman en Brabo. Ze staan tussen Wiske en Schanulleke, Lange Wapper en Kludde. We zien ook verwijzingen naar Een Griekse Tragedie, de tekenfilm van Nicole Van Goethem die een Oscar won, naar het Tropisch Instituut, de chassidische gemeenschap…<br><br></div><div>“Maar daartussen heb ik ook mijn typische collectie van bizarre fantasiefiguren getekend: sexy, halfnaakte vrouwen, robotten, katten, kabouters, zatlappen, skeletten, heksen en prinsessen én een Superman met de Antwerpse A op zijn borst. Het was al een waanzinnige klus om ze allemaal te tekenen, maar voor de mannen die het werk tientallen keren uitvergroot op de gevel hebben gezet, moet het echt hels geweest zijn.”<br><br></div>

<div>The biggest comic mural in Belgium now belongs to Wilrijk.<br>The granddaughter of Jommeke's creatie Jef Nys designed this mural to honor her grandfather and Wilrijk, where he was born.<br>People of Wilrijk are known as 'geitekoppen' (translated as goatheads), therefor you'll find a clear reference to goats.<br><br>Created in november 2017</div>

<div>&nbsp;Cordelia, famous cartoon character by Ilah, is pictured in different study poses on the wall of the rerstaurant of this faculty of the university of Antwerp.<br>Painting a mural in this street was a daring move with all the classic houses.<br><br>(2007)</div>

<div>Almost every Belgian comicbook hero has a wall, except Piet Pienter and Bert Bibber, that changed in 2016.<br>5 years ago when his characters turned 60, Pom the author, refused to be part of a comic wall. <pre>Comic Lucky Luke celebrated his 70th birthday in 2016 and was celebrated in Middelkerke - thé strip town of the Belgian coast - with this mural. The drawing is an exact copy of the cover of Spirou ('Robbedoes') comic strip from 1968, drawn by Morris. The artists of Art Mural (BE) took care of the practical realization. This mural at Cultural Center De Branding was inaugurated on November 16, 2016.</pre><div><br></div>

<div><br>This is the first strip wall in Middelkerke at the Belgian coast, and was inaugurated on October 13, 2016. Dutch cartoonist Hanco Kolk designed the Robbedoes drawing on the wall. Art Mural painted it manually on the facade of 'De Calidris' in Westende (district of Middelkerke). The building is a former children's home, located in the dunes.</div>

<div>&nbsp;De stripmuur met de Kiekeboes kwam er naar aanleiding van de 70ste verjaardag van geestelijk vader Merho in oktober 2018 en het verschijnen van het 150ste album 'K4' van de Kiekeboes begin 2018. Merho maakte voor zijn stripmuur een ontwerp met een aantal typische kenmerken van Westende-bad, zoals het kunstwerk Olnetop van Nick Ervinck dat in het Beeldenpark staat, de Rotonde en het strand van Westende.</div>
