TRIS, nom d'artiste de Tristan Ménard, est un artiste de rue et illustrateur français vivant à Londres. Il est connu pour ses fresques murales narratives à grande échelle, où se mêlent l'énergie de la bande dessinée, un éclairage cinématographique et des couleurs audacieuses et éclatantes. Fin 2021, il s'est lancé dans l'art urbain, après avoir travaillé pendant des années dans l'animation, le concept art et l'illustration.

La fresque murale de Mister Tris à Tertre, une commune de Saint-Ghislain, est un projet artistique récent réalisé en juin 2026 dans le cadre de la célébration du 50e anniversaire de la fusion des communes de Saint-Ghislain. L'objectif de cette fresque était de mettre en valeur l'identité et l'histoire de Tertre à travers une grande œuvre d'art.

Tris a peint une mère et son enfant marchant sur un terril et pointant du doigt l'horizon — un geste simple qui exprime tout : les racines, les souvenirs, qui nous sommes et d'où nous venons.⁠

En dessous, sur le mur du garage, se déploie « Tertre », où passé et présent s’entremêlent : le château d’Escoyez, aujourd’hui mairie, l’aérodrome et l’ancien moulin qui a donné son nom au village. Les symboles de la ville sont répartis sur les trois murs : l’aigle, l’ours et la végétation caractéristique des terrils.

⁠Le mur central a été peint lors d’ateliers par des écoliers, des habitants du quartier et des policiers qui travaillent dans le même bâtiment. Tris n’y a pratiquement rien changé. Il a laissé ces personnes s’exprimer librement, de sorte que ce ne sont plus seulement ses coups de pinceau, mais bien ceux de tout un quartier.

Cette fresque constitue la première étape d’un programme artistique plus vaste qui concernera également d’autres communes de Saint-Ghislain.

TRIS, the artist name of Tristan Ménard, is a French street artist and illustrator based in London. He is known for his large-scale, narrative murals that combine the energy of comic books, cinematic lighting and bold, vibrant colours. In late 2021, he began to focus on street art, after years of working in animation, concept art and illustration.

Mister Tris’s mural in Tertre, a borough of Saint-Ghislain, is a recent art project completed in June 2026 as part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the merger of the municipalities of Saint-Ghislain. The aim of the mural was to bring Tertre’s identity and history to life in a single large-scale work of art.

Tris painted a mother and her child walking across a slag heap and pointing towards the horizon — a simple gesture that expresses everything: roots, memories, who we are and where we come from.⁠

Below that, on the garage wall, Tertre unfolds, interweaving past and present: Château Escoyez, now the town hall, the airport and the old mill from which the village takes its name. The town’s symbols are scattered across the three walls: the eagle, the bear and the vegetation characteristic of the slag heaps.

⁠The central wall was painted during workshops by schoolchildren, local residents and police officers who work in the same building. Tris has made hardly any changes to it. He has allowed these people to express themselves, so that it is no longer just his brushstrokes, but those of an entire neighbourhood.

The mural marks the first step in a wider artistic programme that will also feature other districts of Saint-Ghislain.
