Artwork created for the Just Paint festival in Saint-Brieuc, France, in 2026.

The artist about the artwork: "There is a needle, a thread, an aunt bent over her needlework—and a child learning, without realizing it, how to mend the world one stitch at a time. This rose was born there, in that patient, almost secret, passed-down gesture. Today, it spreads across the ground, vast in scale, breaking free from its own pattern: its petals spill over, its stems trail toward the city center, as if the flower itself wanted to reach the heart of the city. Behind it, the Saint-Guillaume Chapel has just been reborn after years of silence—stone by stone, much like darning worn fabric. Its steeple reaches toward the sky; the rose, meanwhile, reaches toward the street, heading for the city center. One mends the city from above, the other from below. Two acts of restoration that answer one another, without prior coordination. Cross-stitch is an ancient language meant to patch up what is torn. By bringing it to the asphalt, I try to stitch back together what the speed of city life unravels: connection, attentiveness, and time devoted to small things. La vie en rose is an invitation to slow down—to choose seeing in color rather than black and white, and to prefer the gentleness of a simple gesture over the urgency that presses upon us.

Creating this ground mural was a challenge for me after two successive surgeries and a long recovery. Five beautiful days that filled my heart."
