Onder curatorschap van Arne Quinze worden de containermuren van North West Walls op het festivalterrein van Rock Werchter elk jaar opnieuw tot leven gebracht door zes straatkunstenaars. Voor de editie van 2026 koos Arne Quinze voor Anaïs Lera, Guillem Font, Afzan Pirzade, Luca Ledda, Nean en Kamma Marlo.

Guillem Font is een Spaanse beeldend kunstenaar, illustrator en muralist uit Barcelona. Hij verdeelt zijn tijd tussen Barcelona en Mexico-Stad.

Het werk van Font vindt zijn oorsprong in de verkenning van de plaatsen die hij bezoekt, waar hij op zoek gaat naar elementen die verband houden met de kleinschalige flora en fauna die in alle uithoeken van de wereld te vinden is. Deze organismen blijven vaak onopgemerkt, ondanks hun nauwe band met de menselijke gemeenschappen die naast hen leven.

Via deze verbinding, en met behulp van monochrome kleurenpaletten, transformeert Font deze minuscule levende wezens – die deel uitmaken van lokale ecosystemen – tot monumentale figuren en plaatst hij ze recht voor de toeschouwer om een dialoog tot stand te brengen. Het resultaat is een ontmoeting van blikken, een soort oproep van de natuur die ons aanspoort om aandacht te schenken aan en zorg te dragen voor alles wat de wereld in leven houdt, voordat deze door onze onverantwoordelijkheid uiteindelijk haar kleur verliest.

Voor zijn monumentale containerschildering voor North West Walls 2026 nam Font het landschap rondom het Rock Werchter-festival in België als uitgangspunt: een uitgestrekt landelijk gebied doorkruist door irrigatiekanalen en bezaaid met kleine meren.

Guillem Font is a Spanish visual artist, illustrator and muralist from Barcelona. He divides his time between Barcelona and Mexico City.

Font’s work stems from his exploration of the places he visits, where he seeks out elements linked to the small-scale flora and fauna found in every corner of the world. These organisms often go unnoticed, despite their close connection to the human communities living alongside them.

Through this connection, and using monochrome colour palettes, Font transforms these minuscule living creatures – which form part of local ecosystems – into monumental figures and places them directly before the viewer to establish a dialogue. The result is a meeting of gazes, a kind of call from nature urging us to pay attention to and care for everything that keeps the world alive, before it ultimately loses its colour due to our irresponsibility.
