Qui sont les #amazones du Dahomey ?

Membres d'un régiment militaire entièrement féminin appelé FON, les Mino sont des femmes guerrières d'élite devenu l'un des groupes les plus redoutables du royaume du Dahomey (actuel Bénin) qui a existé jusqu'à la fin du XIXe siècle.

Elles sont surnommées "Amazones du Dahomey" par les colons occidentaux et les historiens de par leurs similitudes avec les mythiques Amazones de l'ancienne Anatolie.

Who are the #amazons of Dahomey ?

Members of an entirely female military regiment called FON, the Mino are elite warrior women who have become one of the most formidable groups in the kingdom of Dahomey (now Benin) which existed until the end of the 19th century.

They are nicknamed 'Amazons of Dahomey' by Western settlers and historians due to their similarities with the mythical Amazons of ancient Anatolia.
