"A CARCAMUSA"

Sulle pendici del versante jonico dell'Aspromonte sorge Benestare, soprannominato il paese di gesso, fino agli anni 60 era quasi interamente costruito con il gesso estratto dalla vicina cava e lavorato direttamente sul posto con metodi antichi. Una delle fasi della lavorazione del gesso era la "cottura" che avveniva nella "carcamusa" un apposito forno costruito in pietra, che veniva poi acceso con delle fascine di rami.

Ho quindi deciso di rappresentare in questo murale il momento in cui la "carcamusa" veniva accesa, momento che segnava la trasformazione del gesso che così poteva poi essere utilizzato per costruire le case del paese.

"A CARCAMUSA"

On the slopes of the Ionian side of Aspromonte, Benestare, nicknamed the "chalk village," was built until the 1960s almost entirely with chalk extracted from the nearby quarry and processed directly on site using ancient methods. One of the phases of the chalk processing was the "firing," which took place in the "carcamusa," a special stone oven, which was then lit with bundles of branches.

I therefore decided to depict in this mural the moment when the "carcamusa" was lit, marking the transformation of the chalk, which could then be used to build the houses in the village.
