Sullo stesso altare su cui rimase la Natività di Caravaggio dagli inizi del 1600 fino al suo furto nel 1969, il 25 dicembre 2023 è stata collocata l’opera “Assenza” di Bosoletti.
Nel medesimo giorno è stato inaugurato il murale nel quartiere Sperone.
Un’opera doppia che crea un ponte tra due luoghi apparentemente opposti della città di Palermo che trovano il loro collegamento attraverso il racconto della Natività rubata.
Da un lato una tela realizzata ed esposta all’interno dell’Oratorio di San Lorenzo nelle misure originali del dipinto di Caravaggio, dall’altro un muro di 7 piani nella periferia. Entrambi i dipinti, nella grande differenza dei loro supporti, reincarnano la Natività scomparsa.

Necessariamente questo dipinto è imperfetto, necessariamente non è finito, necessariamente non è bello.
Sua intenzione è rimarcare la storia di un furto, e denunciare, una volta in più, l’incuria e il degrado, ambientale e sociale, che hanno permesso a qualcuno di entrare in un posto abbandonato che doveva essere di tutti per rubare un quadro senza che nessuno se ne accorgesse.
Non si sente la mancanza di qualcosa se non ci accorgiamo nemmeno della sua assenza.
Perciò quest’opera non celebra la bellezza della Natività né la genialità di Caravaggio, celebra la memoria che avrebbe dovuto salvarle.

On the same altar where Caravaggio's Nativity remained from the early 1600s until its theft in 1969, Bosoletti's work "Absence" was placed on December 25, 2023.

On the same day, the mural was inaugurated in the Sperone neighborhood.

A double work that creates a bridge between two apparently opposite places in the city of Palermo that find their connection through the story of the stolen Nativity.

On one side, a canvas made and exhibited inside the Oratory of San Lorenzo in the original measurements of Caravaggio's painting, on the other, a 7-story wall in the suburbs. Both paintings, in the great difference of their supports, reincarnate the missing Nativity.

This painting is necessarily imperfect, necessarily unfinished, necessarily not beautiful.

Its intention is to highlight the story of a theft, and to denounce, once again, the neglect and degradation, environmental and social, that allowed someone to enter an abandoned place that should have belonged to everyone to steal a painting without anyone noticing.

You don't feel the lack of something if you don't even notice its absence.

Therefore, this work does not celebrate the beauty of the Nativity nor the genius of Caravaggio, it celebrates the memory that should have saved them.
