This mural was created in Schwetzingen in 2018 by the artist Thomas Baumgärtel. It was commissioned to mark the 350th anniversary of asparagus cultivation in Schwetzingen.
The work combines Baumgärtel’s signature banana motif with this regional and seasonal vegetable and playfully refers to the importance of asparagus to the town. Today, it is regarded as a striking eye-catcher and an expression of local identity.
