Between 1998 and 2000, Gabriele Stirl designed the Viehofer Platz subway station on behalf of the former Essener Verkehrs-AG (EVAG) as part of the “Kulturwelten” project. She created a large-scale wall and interior design for the station.
Her original work also included the station entrance. Unfortunately, over time, this section was so severely damaged by vandalism and illegal graffiti that it could no longer be salvaged. As a result, the station was completely redesigned several times in the following years (including in 2009 with the help of young people and most recently in 2021/2022 by the street artists of Farbwandel).
