Peacock

Description

In 836, the bones of the patron saint Liborius were carried from Le Mans to Paderborn. According to legend, a peacock flew ahead of the relics during this transport, leading the way to the newly founded diocese of Paderborn. Syck from Bielefeld was not even aware of this deeper meaning of the peacock in the city of Paderborn when he was working on his design for the wall in Schloss Neuhaus. In any case, his ideas were met with great enthusiasm a few kilometres south-east in East Westphalia. Denis Kelle travels the world with his graffiti. In Paderborn, too, he has often been seen on the Busdorfmauer or at the Jams in the central Paderquell area. It all started many years ago with so-called style writing. Here, his own name (SYCK) is repeatedly reinterpreted from an artistic perspective and sprayed over a large area on the wall. In 2010, he became self-employed as a muralist under the name ‘Einsyckartig’ and opened up his works to increasingly graphic and motivic objects. One highlight so far has been the design of the exterior façade and the players' tunnel in the Arminia Bielfeld football stadium. In SchlossNeuhaus, he has applied the Paderborn heraldic animal to the high-rise building in striking detail. The motif is framed by a pane of glass that the peacock, which is a good ten metres tall, breaks through. This dynamic of the mural is emphasised by the graphic elements in its monumental effect. In the upper half of the picture, Syck finally returns to his artistic roots by combining the work with his impressive styles. Fabulous!
