The Island

Description

Surrounded by pieces of traditional dress, Shohrat Tursun (musician) and Dilnigar Alim (dancer), seem as if they are sitting on an island. Dilnigar holds a branch of broken driftwood. This work speaks of diaspora, dislocation and the eternal search for home. The artwork highlights the talents of refugees and their contributions to the diversity, vitality and inclusiveness for which the Inner West is renowned and loved.
Young artists, Raneen Shamon and Emmanuel Asante were mentored and assisted Fintan to create the work.
