Hélène Planquelle vertrekt in dit werk vanuit een gedicht van Alfred de Musset, waarin de kwetsbaarheid van het menselijk bestaan centraal staat, met de liefde als leidraad. Alles rond de geliefden lijkt te verdwijnen: bladeren vallen, waterbronnen drogen op en bloemen vergaan. De wereld valt uiteen, maar precies in dat verval vinden twee mensen elkaar en raken hun “handen van klei” elkaar.
Klei staat symbool voor iets broos en eenvoudigs, maar tegelijk ook voor iets vormbaars en veranderlijks. Door hun fragiele handen te verbinden, maken de geliefden een stil maar krachtig gebaar van verzet tegen vergankelijkheid: heel even lijkt de tijd stil te staan.
Verbondenheid is niet eeuwig, en juist daarom zo waardevol. In een wereld die voortdurend beweegt, krijgen kleine momenten van warmte, aandacht en ontmoeting een grote betekenis. Bekijk het interview hieronder.
De Impulsive Girl Tour is een jaarlijks streetartproject in Menen en Wervik dat vrouwelijke graffiti‑artiesten centraal zet. Gecureerd door Girls ’n Cans brengt het tien artiesten samen die nieuwe murals creëren in sociale woonwijken van woonmaatschappij !Mpuls. In 2026 telt de route 30 murals verspreid over Menen, Wervik, Geluwe en Rekkem. Het project draait rond inclusie, buurtverbinding en zichtbaarheid voor vrouwelijke makers. Tijdens het laatste weekend van mei kan het publiek de artiesten live aan het werk zien. De tour biedt wandel‑ en fietsroutes en betrekt bewoners actief via workshops en ontmoetingen.

In this work, Hélène Planquelle takes as her starting point a poem by Alfred de Musset, in which the vulnerability of human existence takes center stage, with love as the guiding principle. Everything surrounding the lovers seems to vanish: leaves fall, water sources dry up, and flowers wither. The world falls apart, yet precisely in that decay, two people find each other and their “hands of clay” touch.
Clay symbolizes something fragile and simple, but at the same time also something malleable and changeable. By joining their fragile hands, the lovers make a silent but powerful gesture of resistance against transience: for a brief moment, time seems to stand still.
Connectedness is not eternal, and that is precisely why it is so valuable. In a world that is constantly in motion, small moments of warmth, attention, and encounter take on great significance. Watch the interview below.
The Impulsive Girl Tour is an annual street art project in Menen and Wervik that puts female graffiti artists front and center. Curated by Girls ’n Cans, it brings together ten artists who create new murals in social housing estates of housing association !Mpuls. By 2026, the route will feature 30 murals spread across Menen, Wervik, Geluwe, and Rekkem. The project revolves around inclusion, community connection, and visibility for female creators. During the last weekend of May, the public can see the artists at work live. The tour offers walking and cycling routes and actively involves residents through workshops and meetings.
