Deze mooie muurschildering op de gevel van de Albert Heijn supermarkt is qua stijl duidelijk herkenbaar als een werk van De Strakke Hand. Het blijft bijzonder om te zien hoe uiteenlopend hun kunstwerken zijn, terwijl je er toch steeds hun herkenbare handschrift in terugziet.

De schildering is gemaakt in opdracht van de VvE Vondellaan en kwam tot stand met steun van het Ondernemersfonds Utrecht en de supermarktketen.

De Strakke Hand vertelt dat voor het ontwerp het rooster van de bestaande wandtegels als uitgangspunt gebruikt is waardoor de architectuur van de locatie onderdeel kon worden van het kunstwerk.

De muurschildering portretteert een vrouw die terugkeert van haar boodschappen en stopt om maïs aan de vogels te voeren. De kleurrijke mix van vogels staat voor de diversiteit van mensen die elke dag langs deze muur komen.

En als dan ook nog de Domtoren is afgebeeld, word ik helemaal vrolijk!

This beautiful mural on the façade of the Albert Heijn supermarket is instantly recognisable as a work by De Strakke Hand. It is always fascinating to see how varied their artworks are, while still bearing their distinctive artistic signature.

The mural was commissioned by the VvE Vondellaan and made possible with support from the Ondernemersfonds Utrecht and the supermarket chain.

De Strakke Hand explains that the design was based on the grid formed by the existing wall tiles, allowing the architecture of the building to become an integral part of the artwork.

The mural depicts a woman returning from her shopping who stops to feed the birds some corn. The colourful variety of birds symbolises the diversity of people who pass by this wall every day.

And when the Dom Tower is included in the scene as well, it makes me especially happy!
