The light installation in the pedestrian underground passage at Essen Central Station is an over 80-meter-long, wave-shaped LED glass wall that illuminates the underground connecting tunnel between Willy-Brandt-Platz and the subway tracks. The installation consists of approximately 3,000 RGB LED lights located behind a curved profiled glass wall. The wall does not simply glow; it displays changing, flowing color patterns and programmed light scenes. It is intended to give the formerly gloomy underpass a friendly, modern atmosphere and increase passengers’ sense of safety.
