Engin has developed a technique in which he uses a brush to introduce black smears into colorful paths in his artwork. The colored paths are a means to bring out the black for him. They form a blown up version of calligraphy, where the letters have become subsidiaries to the shapes and movements of writing. "It's what happens inside the letters", he says.
