Created for the 3rd edition of 'the Bridges Street Art Festival', theme for this edition: 'Craftmanship and cultural legacy of Bruges'

De derde editie is meteen ook het sluitstuk van het project. Daarmee toonde Wietse dat ook in een historische stad als Brugge hedendaagse kunst zijn plaats heeft. “Streetart is een heel toegankelijke kunstvorm, een wereldfenomeen waarbij gebouwen onder handen genomen worden door kunstenaars met diverse stijlen”, zegt de kunstnaar. “Brugge is altijd een kunststad geweest. Hedendaagse streetart gaat dan ook hand in hand met de rijke cultuurgeschiedenis van de stad.”

Djoels verdiepte zich in het kantklossen, Brugge is al eeuwen een centrum van kantklossen! Kant is ontstaan in de 16de eeuw. Eerst leerden moeders hun dochters klossen, algauw ontstonden overal kantscholen. In Brugge waren er verschillende grote kantscholen.

"Voor een streetart festival in Brugge werd ik uitgenodigd en moest ik in thema werken… vandaar mijn keuze. Mijn super lief, mooi en vriendelijke model Anna, was zeer enthousiast om mee te helpen.

The third edition is also the final part of the project. Wietse showed that contemporary art also has its place in a historic city like Bruges. “Street art is a very accessible art form, a world phenomenon in which buildings are tackled by artists with various styles,” says the artist. “Bruges has always been a city of art. Contemporary street art goes hand in hand with the rich cultural history of the city.”

Djoels immersed himself in bobbin lace, Bruges has been a center of lace making for centuries! Lace originated in the 16th century. First mothers taught their daughters to make bobbins, but soon lace schools sprang up everywhere. In Bruges there were several large lace schools.

"I was invited to a street art festival in Bruges and had to work on a theme... hence my choice. My super sweet, beautiful and friendly model Anna was very enthusiastic to help.
