Warwickshire County Council is very excited to unveil the first mural in our Blank Canvas project, at Fossato Lounge in Kenilworth!
Blank Canvas is a community art project, funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund via Warwickshire County Council. Ten murals will be installed in locations around the County, each reflecting the place they are in, and containing a Warwickshire Bear. Each piece is designed by a local artist working with a local community group, so that voices of the community are captured in the process.
The Kenilworth mural was created by local artist Tim Robottom of Brink Contemporary Arts in collaboration with Gordon Landsburgh, a group of volunteers and young people at the Kenilworth Centre. The bears represent the intergenerational community in Kenilworth (as well as the great variety of coffee spots in the town!), with the iconic Kenilworth Castle as a backdrop, fireworks ablaze in honour of the annual firework display. The ivy is a variety specific to the area (Kenilworth ivy) and the bee-friendly status of the town is reflected in the bees buzzing about the flowers.
Make sure to pop by to see it – and keep an eye on our website for more murals coming soon!
