Project: The Crystal Ship 2023

De nog vrij jonge Pat Perry vertrekt vaak van fotografie, maar de wijze waarop hij ermee omgaat, is vaak erg figuratief. Dat zorgt voor een wondermooi spanningsveld dat haast onvermijdelijk de aandacht trekt. Zo ook in dit werk, dat vanzelfsprekend refereert naar de zee (inclusief Oostendse badgasten), maar evenzeer subtiele verwijzingen bevat naar James Ensor en Léon Spilliaert. Ook typisch voor Perry: de opdeling van het werk in verschillende vlakken.

Pat Perry, still quite young, often starts from photography, but the way he tackles it is often very figurative. This creates a wonderful tension field that almost inevitably attracts attention. So too in this work, which obviously points to the sea (including beachgoers), but also contains subtle references to Ostend artists such as James Ensor and Léon Spilliaert. Also typical of Perry: the partitioning of the work into different spheres.
