Bold. Hopeful. Unapologetically expressive.

This striking mural transforms a once-ordinary underpass into a vibrant passageway of identity, culture, and connection. Designed and painted by students from Trinity Bay State High School as part of Cairns Regional Council’s Youth Urban Art Project (2025), the artwork celebrates the power of youth voices and the stories they carry.

Rendered in a limited yet powerful palette of yellow, black, grey, and white—with bursts of red, green, and blue—the mural features stylised portraits of young people framed by graphic motifs, cultural symbols, and celestial elements. These circular portraits evoke unity, strength, and a sense of belonging, with each figure contributing to the collective identity of the space.

The tunnel not only connects two sides of a physical path—it also connects generations, communities, and cultures. It stands as a living reminder that young people are not just the future, but an essential part of the present, with bold visions worth seeing, hearing, and celebrating.
