Street Art Cities

In Stokhasselt, a prominent neighbourhood in Tilburg North where more than 120 nationalities live, a huge magpie has been painted. The wall was commissioned by housing association WonenBreburg and created in collaboration with the residents of the apartments.

The design was developed in consultation with various local residents. They really liked the idea of a bird. Magpies are common in this neighbourhood and are also quite notable. According to the artist, the bird fits in very well with the surroundings.

The musical stave floating above the clouds symbolises the late Austrian composer Mahler. The flats are located on Mahlerstraat. The bird's striking tail is painted green, as are the green accents on the complex.

Fun facts: If you look carefully, you can see some bat boxes have been installed in the wall of the building (last picture). Therefor the mural has been painted with special water-permeable paint.
This mural is half of a diptych. The flat building next door is scheduled for next spring.

In Stokhasselt, een prominente wijk in Tilburg Noord waar meer dan 120 nationaliteiten wonen, is een enorme ekster geschilderd. De muur is gemaakt in opdracht van woningcorporatie WonenBreburg en in samenwerking met de bewoners van de appartementen.

Het ontwerp is ontwikkeld in overleg met verschillende buurtbewoners. Zij vonden het idee van een vogel erg leuk. Eksters komen veel voor in deze wijk en vallen ook behoorlijk op. Volgens de kunstenaar past de vogel goed in de omgeving.

De notenbalk, die boven in de wolken zweeft, symboliseert de overleden Oostenrijkse componist Mahler. De flats bevinden zich nl aan de Mahlerstraat. De opvallende staart van de vogel is groen geschilderd, net als de groene accenten aan het complex.

Leuke weetjes: Als je goed kijkt, zie je dat er enkele vleermuiskasten in de muur van het gebouw zijn aangebracht (laatste foto). Daarom is de muurschildering met speciale waterdoorlatende verf geschilderd.
Deze muurschildering is de helft van een tweeluik. Het flatgebouw ernaast staat gepland voor volgend voorjaar.
