A beautifully complex skater girl stencil from Viki Murray.
For those that don’t know, stencils are produced by cutting out the image in acetate sheets, then spraying paint onto the medium through those holes. For each different shade or colour used in the final image there is a separate acetate sheet cut out with the portions of the image that are that shade or colour.
This stencil has 13 different layers. It is the huge number of layers that makes this one look so detailed, I also think that the use of a slightly textured surface (which would have made applying the stencil much harder) has added to the effect.
Viki uses her own photos to create her work from, and loves skaters as a subject.
