Street Art Cities

For this mural the artist was inspired by the location. The square just behind the building is called "Koeweide", translating to cows meadow. The building used to be the entrance to a slaughterhouse there. It didn't feel right to paint a mural of cows on a location where so many of the were killed. The choise was made to depict the environment of those cows in the meadows.

The split in the painting represents the world under water and that above. Both the heron and the kingfisher have a caught fish in their beaks, showing the contrast between life and death, referencing to the old slaughterhouse.

Voor deze muurschildering is de kunstenares geïnspireerd door de omgeving. Het plein net achter het gebouw draagt de naam "Koeweide". Het pand was ooit de toegang tot het slachthuis dat zich daar bevond. Het voelde niet goed om een schildering met koeien te maken op een plek waar er zoveel gedood werden. De keuze werd gemaakt om de omgeving van die koeien in een weiland af te schilderen.

Door de tweedeling in het kunstwerk, worden zowel de wereld onder als boven water getoond. De reiger en de ijsvogel hebben beide een gevangen vis in de bek, waarmee het verschil tussen leven en dood wordt gesymboliseerd, met een referentie naar het oude slachthuis.
