Street Art Cities

With this painting the artist shows a still life of everyday objects we see around us daily. This mural was chosen from a selection of three artists by the new owners of the apartments that were being developed in the building it is painted on. To view the artwork you will have to look up, as it is located over the train viaduct.

The historic building from 1922 was built on a wedge-shaped plot hugging the aboveground train viaduct that connected Rotterdam to The Hague at that time. Since the 1990's the building was empty and boarded up, starting to decay. In 2018 it was renovated and the new residents moved in.

The train viaduct was in use until the early 2000's and has since been converted to commercial spaces underneath the arches. On top of the viaduct, where the trains used to ride, a park will be realized.

Met deze schildering toont de kunstenaar een stilleven van alledaagse voorwerpen die we om ons heen vinden. Deze muurschildering is gekozen uit een selectie van drie kunstenaars door de nieuwe eigenaren van de appartementen die ontwikkeld werden in het gebouw waar het op is geschilderd. Om het kunstwerk te zien moet je omhoog kijken, aangezien het zich boven het spoorviaduct bevindt.

Het historische gebouw uit 1922 is gebouwd op een wigvormig stuk grond dat tegen het bovengrondse spoorviaduct aan ligt dat destijds Rotterdam met Den Haag verbond. Sinds de jaren '90 stond het gebouw leeg en was het dichtgetimmerd, het begon te vervallen. In 2018 is het gerenoveerd en zijn de nieuwe bewoners erin getrokken.

Het treinviaduct de Hofbogen was in gebruik tot begin jaren 2000 en de ruimtes onder de bogen zijn sinds die tijd in gebruik genomen als commerciële ruimtes. Bovenop het viaduct, waar vroeger de treinen reden, wordt een park gerealiseerd.
