Cette fresque a été réalisée en 2025 par Mathieu Mary, membre du collectif d'artistes bruxellois 7e Gauche. Elle se trouve à côté du quai de la gare, accessible par l'escalier vert.

Il s'agit de l'une des œuvres créées dans le cadre du programme d'art public « Festival des 5 Saisons », lancé à la suite des crues de la Vesdre en 2021. Dans le cadre de ce festival, des artistes ont transformé des bâtiments de Chaudfontaine en symboles d'espoir et de renouveau.

Cette œuvre fait référence à la Belle Époque, période durant laquelle Chaudfontaine était surtout connue comme station thermale. Mary s’est inspirée d’une ancienne affiche publicitaire de Chaudfontaine datant de l’époque des thermes, mais l’a réinterprétée dans un style graphique contemporain.

Sur la fresque murale, on aperçoit une femme élégamment vêtue qui fait référence aux visiteurs des anciens thermes. Le texte « Chaudfontaine – près de Liège » est directement lié à l’image touristique historique de la station thermale. Les plantes et les fleurs représentent la nature et le caractère verdoyant des environs, tandis que les aplats bleus et crème évoquent une ambiance aquatique et thermale.

Selon Mary, l’objectif n’était pas simplement de reproduire une ancienne affiche : il souhaitait réinterpréter cette image historique dans une composition contemporaine aux couleurs pastel. Une partie du mur a été délibérément laissée plus abstraite afin de mettre en valeur l’architecture du bâtiment.

This mural was created in 2025 by Mathieu Mary, a member of the Brussels-based artists’ collective 7e Gauche. You can find the artwork next to the train platform, which you can reach via the green staircase.

It is one of the works created as part of the Festival des 5 Saisons public art programme following the flooding of the Vesder in 2021. As part of this festival, artists have transformed buildings in Chaudfontaine into symbols of hope and renewal.

This artwork harks back to the Belle Époque, the period when Chaudfontaine was best known as a spa resort. Mary drew inspiration from an old advertising poster for Chaudfontaine dating from the spa era, but reworked it using a contemporary graphic style.

The mural depicts an elegantly dressed woman, evoking the visitors to the former thermal baths. The text ‘Chaudfontaine – près de Liège’ is directly linked to the spa town’s historic tourist image. The plants and flowers represent nature and the green character of the surroundings, whilst the blue and cream-coloured areas evoke a water- and spa-town atmosphere.

According to Mary, the intention was not simply to copy an old poster: he wanted to reinterpret the historical image in a contemporary, pastel-coloured composition. Part of the wall has been deliberately kept more abstract to emphasise the building’s architecture.
