The Path

Created in partnership between Singapore and the Australian High Commission as part of the '50 Bridges' Project, painted at the Chinatown Complex facing Smith Street.

This mural symbolises the path of life and how we find ourselves within it. The artwork is created in the hope that passers-by can identify with a character in the story of the mural or use their imegatinion to interpret what the mural is trying to depict – is it a parade, a race, a migration, or just a path with people walking in the same direction? The colours red, yellow and gold were chosen as they are often associated as the colours of Chinatown. The artwork also features the lone "spirit" within the mural with circles of dots around them. Again, the symbology of the lone 'spirit' is left for all to interpret - Is this character meant to represent the viewer or the artist telling the story, a spirit ancestor, an aura, a leader, or something else?
