The Kutaisi Street Art project was born in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the 'Tbilisi Mural fest' team painted one of the city’s first murals. Since then, they have created around 14 murals throughout the city.
This specific mural is located in the Nikia district, where they have dedicated several works to mythology. Last year, Vesod contributed a mural depicting Amirani, a Georgian mythological figure considered a precursor to Prometheus. You can spot this mural on a nearby wall in the accompanying photos.
This year, they expanded the collection with two new murals inspired by Euripides’ tragedy Medea. It is widely believed that Medea originated from Georgia, specifically from Kutaisi. For one wall, they invited GDL Street Art (Judy De Leeuw) to create a striking depiction of Medea. Beside it, a 45-meter-long wall showcases the story of Jason, Medea’s lover, and their shared, yet tragic, narrative.
They were thrilled to collaborate with INO, a renowned Greek artist, to paint Jason’s mural. This piece, titled The Bleeding Heart, forms part of a visual “dialogue” between the two murals, weaving their interconnected story together.
